#4 History of Editing

This week was the most intriguing of them all. I have an obsession with editing pictures and videos. I believe that editing is the backbone of all the content that we produce.

An editing technique that we went over in that lecture is known as the Kuleshov effect. It is an effect demonstrated by Soviet filmmaker Lev Kuleshov in the 1910's and 1920's. This technique focuses on using two shots in a sequence so that viewers draw more meaning. It is a mental phenomenon by which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots than from a single shot in isolation.

Other than that, I myself went over the history of editing and the first thing I came across was the Kinetography which was the first device to be known as a moving image camera. The way in which the kinetography worked was by one person at one time looking directly down through a peephole on top of the device. The viewer would then see a motion picture via a series of still images changing at a fast pace under a light source. The Kinetograph was first used by Thomas Edison and William Dickson who I had studied about in Physics earlier in school.

Anyway, I learned some techniques and tricks while researching and studying about editing and the techniques that followed. I later applied them on the pictures myself and here are the results.

Here I have taken a raw image and added a little exposure and contrast in the picture. I have added the lights and the fillers.
